1999 Harley Davidson Sportster XL1200s (sport) specifications

Sportster XL1200s (sport edition) is not your everyday Sportster, it is still too heavy @553lbs and reving too low @5800RPM to compare with race bikes, but it has some pleasant surprises under the tank. At the time it was produced it had the fastest Harley-Davidson engine.

XL1200s differs from normal Sportster by:

- Spark plugs per cylinder: 2 (normally 1)
- Torque: 98 Nm (72.28 lb-ft) @ 3200 rpm (normally 64 lb-ft)
- Compression: 10:1 (normally 9:1)
- Performance cam (normally, well.. not)
- Adjustable front shocks (compression-bottom, rebound-top)
- Adjustable rear shocks (compression-bottom, spring pre-load, rebound-top)
- Computer with diagnostic port (normally, well.. not)
- Ignition: dual fire mode (normally single fire)

The limitations of XL1200S are revs that are cut off by computer at 5800 RPMs  and 5 speed transmission which limits the top speed.

The limit at 5800RPM may cause some backfires at that speed.
The transmission is otherwise excellent and reliable - I found no justification to spend money on Baker 6 with overdrive.
