Uki's Book Library

I remember my parents’ bookshelf.

Our home library was small but still more varied and interesting than those in other people's houses.

My mother, a nurse, was an eclectic reader with many interests; my father was a history and literature buff.

I was late to start reading. I remember my parents talking about a family friend, a 6-year-old reading fluently.

I remember I started to read voraciously when I got a cold and stayed in bed for a couple of weeks.

Some of the first books I read were by Jules Verne in the exploration genre.

I loved the adventure ever since.

We borrowed books from the school library, and later, I started buying them from the town's small, quaint bookstore in an old wooden villa.

Once I arrived in the USA, Borders and Barnes and Noble were my favorite hangout places.

Only recently, in 2024, after purchasing thousands of books, I realized that collecting books is my hobby. Until now, I thought it was just a normal thing to do to buy and read books.

My favorite quotations..

“A man should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”  by Robert A. Heinlein
