Coal Creek Trail, Cougar Mountain, WA

Today, we have met new friends and went hiking on an easy introduction hike at Coal Creek trail near Cougar Mountain in New Castle, WA.

Unexpectedly, the Coal Creek has very interesting history and incredibly interesting geology.

In last 1800s, the whole valley was used as coal operation with large amount of shafts. Today, the place is a nature preserve and nothing indicates previous industrialization.

The photos below show the markers and the existing coal vein right above the creek.
